Black Forest Cake

Ingredients

1 small package miniature marshmallows Use 5 cups.

1 pkg Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix

1 can Cherry Pie Filling

1 carton Cool Whip

can garnish cake with shredded coconut and or Maraschino Cherries, pecans, shaved chocolate

Directions

Lightly grease a 9 x 13 pan, place marshmallows in pan, then prepare cake mix to directions, pour over marshmallows, with a large spoon drop cherries over top of cake. Bake at 350 for 1 hr.

Cool and frost with Cool Whip, can add shave chocolate, maraschino cherries or nuts over top to garnish, if you wish.

Helpful Baking Tips

Evenly spreading the marshmallows across the bottom of the pan helps create a consistent layer as they melt during baking. When spooning the cherry pie filling over the batter, distribute it gently so every serving includes delicious cherry flavor.

Allow the cake to cool completely before adding the whipped topping. This helps the topping stay light and fluffy instead of melting into the warm cake.

For cleaner slices, refrigerate the frosted cake for about 30 minutes before serving. This allows the topping to set and makes cutting much easier.

This recipe is delicious exactly as written, but the optional garnishes allow you to personalize the finished cake. Chocolate shavings create an elegant bakery-style appearance, while maraschino cherries add bright color that complements the cherry filling beautifully.

Shredded coconut adds a subtle sweetness and pleasant texture, while chopped pecans contribute a satisfying crunch. Using several garnishes together creates a dessert that’s especially impressive for holidays and celebrations.

You can also serve each slice with a little extra whipped topping if you prefer an even creamier finish.

Serving Suggestions

Black Forest Cake is perfect for birthdays, family reunions, potlucks, holiday dinners, church suppers, graduation parties, and weekend gatherings.

Serve each slice chilled with freshly brewed coffee, hot chocolate, tea, or a cold glass of milk. Fresh cherries or berries on the side make an attractive presentation during cherry season.

Storage Tips

Store leftover cake covered in the refrigerator because of the whipped topping. It will stay fresh for up to four days when kept in an airtight container.
