Butter Swim Biscuits – Golden, Buttery, and Irresistible
If you’ve never tried Butter Swim Biscuits, get ready for the fluffiest, butter-soaked biscuits you’ll ever eat. These golden squares bake right on top of melted butter, creating a crispy edge and soft, pillowy inside. With just a handful of ingredients and no rolling or cutting, these biscuits are easy enough for beginners and delicious enough to become a family favorite.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 4 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add Buttermilk: Stir in the buttermilk until a moist dough forms.
- Melt Butter: Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour into an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish. (Be sure to use a dish that’s not too small or shallow, so the butter doesn’t spill over while baking.)
- Spread Dough: Place the dough directly on top of the melted butter. Use a spatula to spread it evenly until it touches the sides of the dish.
- Score the Dough: Cut the unbaked dough (which should be swimming in butter) into 9 even-ish squares.
- Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Serve: Slice along the scored lines and enjoy warm.
Tips & Variations
- For extra flavor, sprinkle shredded cheddar and garlic powder on top before baking.
- Try using self-rising flour and adjust baking powder/salt accordingly.
- Add a drizzle of honey or jam when serving for a sweet touch.
