Homemade Ranch Dressing – Fresh, Creamy & Flavorful
There’s nothing quite like homemade ranch dressing. With fresh herbs, tangy buttermilk, and a creamy base, this recipe gives you the classic flavor we all love—without the store-bought bottle. Plus, making your own ranch mix means you can keep a jar on hand for quick dips, salads, or sandwiches whenever you need it.

Ingredients
Dry Ranch Mix
- 1/4 cup black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups parsley flakes
- 1/2 cup garlic salt
- 2 tbsp kosher salt
- 1/4 cup granulated garlic
- 3/4 cup granulated onion
- 2 tbsp dill weed
For the Dressing
- 2 tbsp dry ranch mix
- 2 cups mayonnaise
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Optional: 1 tsp sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
Preparation
- Make the Mix: Combine all dry ingredients together and store in an airtight container. This will make about 3 1/2 cups of dry mix.
- Prepare the Dressing: In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 tbsp of the dry mix with mayonnaise, buttermilk, sour cream, and lemon juice. Add sugar if desired.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve: Makes about 1 3/4 quarts of fresh ranch dressing.
Tips & Variations
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika for a little kick.
- Use fresh herbs (parsley, dill, chives) instead of dried for an extra-fresh flavor.
- This dressing also makes a fantastic dip for veggies, wings, or fries.
